Effective date: 01.11.2026
This policy explains what the Kodama app ("Kodama", "we", "us") does with your information. Kodama is an independent app made by one developer. If you have any question, write to [email protected].
What changed (01.11.2026): starting with version 1.1, Kodama can send anonymous usage statistics, and only after you allow it. See "Anonymous usage analytics" below. Your notes and the words you type are still never sent.
The short version
- Your notes and drawings stay on your iPhone. We can't read them.
- There is no account, no ads and no tracking. If you allow it, Kodama sends anonymous usage statistics through Google Analytics for Firebase, never your notes or the words you type.
- When you use "Draw something new" for a word that isn't in the built-in library, that word is sent to our server, which asks the image service Recraft to sketch it. We don't keep the word or the drawing.
- You can delete everything at any time in Settings → Delete all entries.
Data that stays on your device
- Notes and drawings. Everything you write and every drawing you choose is stored only on your iPhone. We never receive it.
- iCloud backup (optional, off by default). If you turn it on, your journal is synced to your own iCloud account through Apple. It is protected by your Apple Account and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We can't access it. Drawings you create with "Draw something new" stay on this iPhone only and are not included in iCloud sync.
- Face ID lock. Kodama asks iOS to confirm it's you. Your face data never leaves the device and is never available to us or to the app.
- Reminders. The evening reminder is a local notification scheduled on your iPhone. No server is involved.
- Settings. Your theme, reminder time and other choices are stored on your device.
- Sharing a poster. When you share a month, the image is created on your phone and passed to the iOS share sheet. Where it goes is your choice; we don't receive a copy.
"Draw something new" and Recraft
Kodama includes a built-in library of drawings that works fully offline. Some of these drawings were created with Recraft, an AI image service. When you type a word that isn't in the library and tap "Draw it", this happens:
- Your device sends only that word to our server. Nothing else: no notes, no name, no device identifier.
- Our server cleans the word (letters and spaces only, up to 80 characters), puts it inside a fixed style instruction and sends it to Recraft.
- Recraft returns a drawing. Our server passes it straight back to your phone and keeps no copy. The drawing is then saved only on your iPhone.
